I am but a cog in a machine. A lazy one though.

A good post to mention !buyeuropean@feddit.uk.

Thanks for that link! I love that they put a whole article up explaining why. Quite transparent.

Very good practices and yeah password manager is a must!
I do also have a throwaway email and I really appreciate people posting news to lemmy, don’t get me wrong, but making an account to every news site appearing on lemmy and logging in everytime (because of clearing browser cookies / sessions) is a bit tedious.
Not saying this needs to change (it is my laziness in the end) and again, really appreciate people posting on lemmy. Just wanted to comment out my frustrations about the loginwall.

Thanks @TheEntity@lemmy.world, appreciate it!

A bit of a bummer that there is a loginwall. It says free registered users can read this but I’m tired of giving my email and privacy away.
I understand that they need revenue, but posting this on Lemmy without the text or an archived link to full post is just asking for --I read only the title and am gonna form opinions–

Exactly. It’s not perfect, but it’s an improvement. They might have said something equally bad like “we are moving to facebook”.
We need visibility to such institutions because the younger generation is not interested in parsing a website or RSS feed for information and news (this is a sad fact) but rather parse social media. Far right, mis/disinformation will be there for everyone to see. We need scientific and public institutions to be visible.
I think enshittification of “traditional” software already gave enough initial visibility for fediverse and the word “decentralization” that when bluesky goes to shit it’s already less of a new thing to move to - let’s say - mastodon hosted by EU or whatever.
Edit: added more to the second paragraph.

This is good. I know Mastodon would be better, but right now I’m just happy that public agencies are moving away from that far-right platform owned by a fascist asshole who gained global political power because of money…
There is a draw.io extension for VS Code (like another comment mentioned, it looks like the main application is vs code), and the UI elements inside the open tab with grid looks like draw.io’s minimalistic dark theme.
Edit: yeah looks like it: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=hediet.vscode-drawio
The screenshot you have in your post just has a different drawio theme than the default one. You can change the theme in settings of drawio.
Edit 2: Scrap that, it was proved to be obsidian based on LordeMostarda’s comment and answers below

Ahh okay, thanks for the clarification!
Yeah you are right I don’t think there are such communities yet on fedi.
Setting up such community would truly help fediverse grow, but it does take effort until you have a sizable community.

What kind of community would that be?
I don’t remember bumping into r/GenZ before I left reddit, so I don’t know what kind of community you mean but we could make or suggest a community that would fit.

Yes it has gotten much better after 8.0
Of course PHP still has some baggage but 7.x was such a breath of fresh air that it gave me hope. 8.x made me love PHP
Edit: for context to people who don’t work with php on how this has been an issue (and continues to still be: Hasn’t been updated in a long time but still awesome php shortcomings website from the creator of advent of code

PHP 8 is actually really good. Think last time I was angry at PHP was pre 7.4 PHP

Very true. It wont matter what pops up in the appstore after either.

I’m European using signal, I frequent in two countries very often (not neighbouring countries) and for the past two years I’ve noticed more and more people using signal.
Ditched whatsapp half a year ago and haven’t had problems. Some friends use both signal and whatsapp.
Not saying many in whole Europe use signal but it certainly is not only popular in US.
Edit: but not saying using signal will change anything if this bill passes. No matter what popular app we use we are going to have no privacy at all if this thing passes…

Appreciate the thorough explanations, thanks!
The last part is fucked up, yikes…

Thanks for the explanation. Makes sense for targeted ads for sure. Still a bit worried about hashtags being used for ads since I follow a lot of hashtags on mastodon and usually have a quite a nice “organic” feed compared to other social media.

Might be a stupid question, but can’t threads just post ads as “posts” via activityPub? On mastodon they would appear as toots?
Was just remembering how reddit introduced ads as basically promoted posts and recall facebook doing the same.
I sure fucking hope not.
I can already see it…
Ad: CAN YOU SOLVE THIS IMPOSSIBLE RIDDLE THAT AI CAN’T SOLVE?!
With OP’s image. And then it will have the following once you solve it: “congratz, send us your personal details and you’ll be added to the hall of fame at CERN Headquarters”
