It’s just another addiction in our world that encourages over-consumption. If this were just people looking at silly videos nobody would have a problem. It’s just another brick in the wall. We should fight for every one that gets put in.
False dichotomy, they aren’t the same. There is no ‘social media’ just how we communicate right now. Right now at best it’s innocent stealing of our data for enormous profit, at worst - it’s influencing us to destroy ourselves or each other.
It should be that simple. What people don’t realize is it isn’t. That’s okay, I’m not mad. I just want to help.
Remember these people are ill. Social media addiction will be studied for years to come. Bashing these kind of people will only push them to these apps and worsen the problem. The more honest we are, the faster this will turn around. Call these people sick to their face and watch them writhe and squirm as they try and justify it. It looks ugly but it will do them a load of help compared to nothing.
I’ve since dropped this position because the world has changed, and so has my view. Heart Disease kills more people than anything, and now we effectively have a cure for obesity. Obesity should now be seen as smallpox or polio - something to be eradicated. No excuses, and now they’re actively limiting the supply of this - forcing more product out of the hands that need it and into the hands of people like musk
An accurate and informative presentation of a product someone might be interested in could be considered an ad. For example, Coca-Cola written in drones across the sky isn’t an ad. It’s actually a target for a drone jammer.
Both can be true. This probably makes more sense in your head.

For Chinas purposes ( war ) they want the best ones. You need these good chips to have missiles that can at least match your opponent. China wants to make AI powered ship killing missiles and they can’t really make them without these chip making facilities.
Ban so they have justification for confiscation. It’s not a real ‘ban’. Like how russian missiles ‘aren’t’ made with western components but actually are.
These chips are in everything too. Electric vehicles need them, factories and businesses want them.
