I would not agree. Every metric is subject to Goodhart’s law, approval ratings is no exception. Putin has (allegedly) maintained an approval rating well over 50% for his entire career.
I’m not saying he wants to do right by his constituents, I’m saying he wants to be told he’s a winner. Trump is a narcissist. He’s all the other terrible things because at the end of the day he needs to feel liked. He will only do things that he thinks will fill that void.
He had to defend TikTok to win over youth votes for the election.
Now that he’s pres again, he knows that in one year it will become very apparent that he can’t lower grocery/gas prices, and isn’t willing to take action on home prices, the deficit, AI, or wage inequality.
So instead he has a list of things that will prop up his approval rating, because that is the only metric that actually matters to him. Right now that seems to mean keeping TikTok, and annexing new territory (even if that just means renaming the Gulf of Mexico).
Is it possible English isn’t your first language, and you interpreted “whatever the fuck” as offensive or snarky? I can assure you that wasn’t the intended tone.
Millenials and GenX started using the internet when we were basically the only ones online. Everyone was a handle, there was no gender, race, or age, just another person. Introducing a generational divide between users is a new concept introduced by deanonymization through social media. But it’s not necessary here. I honestly never know if I’m talking to a 50yo boomer or a kid with an iPad, and I don’t care. Just contribute to the discussion.
I find it kinda concerning how the number of instances is shrinking and number of users per instance is going up. IMO it should be part of the fediverse design to incentivize decentralization to avoid a gmail situation.
Also worrying is that the number of Active Users is trending constant or slightly down, but the number of posts over time is climbing dramatically. To me, this could be a sign of inauthentic behaviour on the rise.
To the wealthy, volatility is opportunity. Yeah, the market will go down for a while, and later it’ll go back up. Billionaires will cash in both ways.
Generational Theory refers to them as a “Nomad” generation, analagous to the more literally named “Lost Generation” one sacculum prior.
Generational theory is not scientific, but the patterns it identifies are certainly interesting. It’s held up over the last 30 years, and seems to be continuing.
So, question: when the billionaire dies, does their wealth transfer according to local laws? So an entire lineage could instantly turn inside out, including bastard children on the fringes of inheritance, with only an estate tax to save them?
In Anomaly I feed them all to my Harbinger Trees for more bioferrite!
But if I had any cannibals, or my Ideoligion didn’t dislike corpses so much, I would probably do things differently.
Right, that’s what I was getting at with my second part hah
As an American, Turbo Tax. I’ve been using FreeTaxUSA for almost 20 years with no problems, without paying for filing software.
But if I weren’t American, my answer would probably be: tax software.
Right, that’s what i mean by optimization. It’s accomplishing the same goal, but amortizes the transfer over more time, saving bandwidth.
The timestamp feature could also be accomplished by publicly posting a small hash of the data ahead of time, but similarly bandwidth can be optimized by distributing the encrypted blob ahead of time.
That’s an optimization for just having the automated email send the secret directly.
It is not “hurting children” to help them understand their underlying assumptions.
PEBKAC.
But seriously, she needs to understand that, even though she (presumably) taught you how to tie your shoes, you don’t keep having her tie them for you. At some point there is no problem except that she isn’t accepting the solution.
Keeping with the analogy, if a person just refuses to tie shoes, not wearing shoes is always an option…
I think they’re just asking, from a categorical imperative perspective, what is the most effective way for all individuals with a bit of savings to help the climate situation.
And tbh, at this point OP is probably better off spending that $10k on preparing for:
At this point, there’s virtually nothing that can be done to stop the impact of climate change, there is only adapting to survive it. The best we can do is vote and/or hope for our global political situation to finally reach its inevitable crisis point. But I don’t expect that to be a pleasant experience.
I’m not seeing Elden Ring anywhere in the top voted posts, but if you’re looking for something like BotW, you should consider it. Always somewhere new to explore and very non-linear. The lore of the world is insanely rich, but there basically is no story.
Tunic is awesome. Lots of exploration and lots of secrets to find. Don’t look anything up, it’s a very unique experience.
Hollow Knight is the first metroidvania I liked. Great exploration, but it’s not exactly going to test the limits of your rig. Similar to the Souls games, lots of lore, little story.
Rimworld is so non-linear it’s literally a story simulator. It creates unforgettable experiences and has infinite replayability. You can save and quit at any moment, so it’s good if you only have an hour or two (but you could easily put hundreds of hours into it).
And I want to echo others who said Outer Wilds, RDR2, BG3, and CP2077.
Outer Wilds is an unforgettable experience, but has very low replayability. Everything is knowledge based, and playing the game means figuring everything out for the first time (so be sure not to look anything up).
But it’s all exploration, it has an excellent story, and I would recommend it to anyone.
Don’t you mean santorum?
This feels like the thesis for Lord of the Flies.
Did you know NASA uses Linux on all its spaceships? That’s why there’s no sound in space.
